Here is a great encouraging update from Sue Lum regarding the Kete project and Friends of Tawa Bush:
…At the end of term one, Link teachers from each of our Tawa schools joined myself and Joanne Youthed on a bushwalk in Wilf Mexted Reserve to learn about seed collection, followed by an introduction to the FOTBR nursery. Despite ‘inclement’ weather (it was pouring down!) we had fun and learnt a lot.
A large group of our KETE Student Leaders also spent a couple of hours at the nursery, learning about some of the endemic trees local to Tawa, doing some weeding and potting up for Joanne. The students are keen to come back and continue their work. A senior group of students also had a look at the area around the new skate park and came up with some suggestions as to how to improve the area with planting. We look forward to spending more time at the nursery.
